Ensuring Access to Clean Water and Sanitation
Access to clean water and adequate sanitation is fundamental to health and well-being. At Idurus Development, our Water and Sanitation Program is dedicated to addressing the critical water needs of communities in Northern Kenya and Ethiopia. Through a series of targeted projects, we aim to provide sustainable solutions that improve the quality of life for thousands of individuals.
Our efforts include the construction of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) components funded by MISEREOR Germany and ZOA Hope Recovery Netherlands. These projects focus on building infrastructure that ensures communities have access to safe drinking water and proper sanitation facilities, significantly reducing the risk of waterborne diseases and promoting overall health.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we launched sanitation and hygiene initiatives to help curb the spread of the virus. These efforts included distributing hygiene kits, conducting awareness campaigns, and implementing sanitation facilities in high-need areas. Our work has been crucial in supporting vulnerable populations during this challenging time.
One of our notable projects involves providing donkeys and donkey carts to internally displaced persons (IDPs). Funded by ZOA Nathaniel, this initiative has been instrumental in helping IDPs transport water from distant sources, easing their daily burden and ensuring they have sufficient water for their needs. This project not only addresses immediate water access issues but also empowers communities by providing them with essential tools to manage their water resources independently.
